ERARD, or ERARD-GAVEAU, Est. 1777, 45-47 rue la Boetie, Paris, France.
Sebastian Erard born in Strassburg, Germany 1752 at age 16 settled in
Paris, first piano made 1777. The French Revolution drove Sebastian to
London, where he immediately started a piano and harp factory, in 1796 he
returned to Paris. Nicholas Erard, France 1878. Jean Baptiste, brother of
Sebastian. Pierre Erard made pedal board piano. Erard is famous for the
introduction of a grand action system still used today Used names Erard &
Cie, Guichard et Cie, Erard & Blondell also made harps. Erard and Gaveau
formed a single company in 1960, in 1971 a contract of cooperation
between Erard-Gaveau and Schimmel Piano Co. was signed. For additional
