SOHMER & CO., INC.,  Est. 1872 by Hugo Sohmer and K. Kuder when they
     purchased the Marshall & Mittauer piano factory  In 1931 the factory was
      located in Astoria on Long Island and offices in the Sohmer building, 31 W
      57th St., NY  Later moved t0 11-02 31st. Ave., Long Island City, NY 11106
     Hugo's son Harry J. controlled the company until his death in 1971, with
    his sons Harry J. Sohmer Jr., president and Robert Sohmer vice-president.
    Also made the Primrose piano.  The family sold the company to Pratt Reed
      & Co. in 1982.  After moving the factory to Ivoryton, CT. Pratt Reed sold
      Sohmer to Robert Mc Neilin 1986.  Bernard Greer, owner of Falcone Piano
      Co. bought the firm, including Knabe, Mason & Hamlin and George Steck
      names, in 1991.  From 1991 0n Sohmer pianos were made in Elysburg, PA.
    The new parent company was named Mason & Hamlin Corp. Address, 35
     Duncan St., Haverhill, MA. 01830. In late 1994 Mason & Hamlin Corp.
      stopped production.  April 1996 Kirk and Gary Burgett, owners of Music
      Systems Research bought the assets of the company and announced plans
    to continue production.  See photo on page 235, 320.
