CHICKERING BROS., See Acoustigrande. This company was started in
Chicago by Clifford Chickering 1892 who was a son of Josiah B. Chickering
related to the Boston Chickerings. Also made Capacoustic Grand.

CHICKERING, JONAS, AEOLIAN CO.
CHICKERING & MACKAY, From about 1830 t0 1841. See Chickering. John
Mackay was a sea captain, took pianos to South America and brought back
fine Rosewood, Mackay was lost at sea in 1841.
CHICKERING, Est. 1823, by Jonas Chickering and James Stewart. The Firm
was named Stewart & Chickering for a short time. In 1852 Jonas brought
his three sons, C. Frank, Thomas E. and George H., into the company, the
name changed to Chickering & Sons. 1852 the factory was on Washington
St. Thomas took control after Jonas death in 1853. In 1871 Thomas passed
away and Frank took control. Frank and George died in the late 1890's.
1908 the firm was sold to the American Piano Co. Aeolian Corp. bought
the American Piano Co. and formed Aeolian-American in 1932. Chickering
Hall located at Fifth Ave. and 18th St. in NY was completed on 1875, in
1900 it was sold due to financial problems. Chickering Quarter-Grand
introduced in 1901. The Chickering Ampico was introduced in 1911.
Concert Grand #15327, built about 1925. Chickering factory was located
at East Rochester, NY The East Rochester plant closed 7-22-82. The name
was purchased by the Wurlitzer Piano Co., some Chickering pianos were
made in Holly Springs, MS. starting in 1986. Baldwin purchased Wurlitzer
and Chickeringin 1995. See Stewart & Chickering. Photo on page 168.

uncover any real facts. Not known at Chickering & Sons. Name was cast in
plate. Boston Public Library added only that he lived and died in Boston. |
